Edgar achieved his dream of working in tech after participating in the program that inspired the new IT Support Professional Certificate from Google.
This five-course certificate, developed exclusively by Google, includes innovative curriculum designed to prepare you for an entry-level role in IT support. A job in IT can mean in-person or remote help desk work in a small business or at a big company like Google. If you've been tinkering with IT or are new to the field, you're at the right place. The program is part of Grow with Google, a Google initiative to help create economic opportunities for all Canadians.
Upon completion of the certificate, you can share your information with top employers like Infosys, Sykes, Intel, TEKSystems, Walmart and, of course, Google.
Through a mix of video lectures, quizzes and hands-on labs and widgets, the program will introduce you to troubleshooting and customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration and security. You'll hear from Googlers with unique backgrounds whose own foundation in IT support served as a jumping off point for their careers.
By dedicating 8-10 hours a week, you can complete the certificate in about 8 months. You can skip through content that you might already know and speed ahead to the graded assessments.

What is IT support?
Companies rely on technology everyday, but sometimes that technology fails us. Computers break, systems fail, phones die; and when that happens, we need experts to fix them. IT support is all about troubleshooting and problem solving when the tech fails, and providing great customer service along the way.
Why did Google create this program?
Google has long faced an issue that many other companies content with, such as open IT support roles and not enough qualified candidates to fill them. So, a few years ago Google began working with a non-profit organization to build out training programs and pathways to roles in technical support at Google. Google learned that not only is IT support a highly teachable field, but that they could teach someone completely new to the industry the IT fundamentals in about 8-12 months. So, Google decided to build an IT training program on Coursera, created entirely by Googlers who are experts in IT support, so that training could be available to everyone.
What background knowledge is necessary?
None! Whether you're completely new to the field or have had some exposure to IT, this is the right program for you. If you're already familiar with the subject matter, you can skip directly to the graded assessments.
What is unique about this program?
The IT Support Professional Certificate is a first-of-its kind program with highly interactive content, like hands-on labs and widgets, exclusively developed by Google. For those who successfully complete the program, you'll have a direct route to get your info into the hands of top employers in Canada.
