How can I get my idea in front of someone who works at Netflix?

If you have an idea for a show or film, you may be curious about how to send it to Netflix.

Whether it is an idea that just came to mind or a fully developed script, Netflix does not accept unsolicited materials or ideas.

Any submission to Netflix, even those the company solicits, must be sent through a licensed literary agent, or from a producer, attorney, manager or entertainment executive who already has a relationship with Netflix.

Netflix only accepts submissions through a licensed literary agent, or from a producer, attorney, manager, or entertainment executive with whom the company has a preexisting relationship. Any idea that is submitted by other means would be considered an "unsolicited submission."

If you have an idea, script, screenplay, or production already in development that you'd like to pitch to Netflix, you should find a licensed literally-agent, producer, attorney, manager, or entertainment executive who already has a relationship with Netflix.

If you do not have any of these resources available, Netflix will be unable to accept your unsolicited submissions

Not all hope is lost, Netflix uses all of the following methods to find new content to buy or create:

  • Netflix employs a team of creative executives and buyers, who receive pitches for shows and movies.

  • Netflix has deep relationships with the executive community and talent agencies, who propose ideas for shows and movies.

  • Netflix may purchase finished works at film festivals or other established venues.

Sometimes, Netflix generates an idea internally and then hires writers or other creatives to develop those ideas further.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is buying everything from horror and multi-cam comedies like The Ranch to musicals.

A "Netflix Original" is content that is produced, co-produced, or distributed by Netflix exclusively on their services. Netflix funds their original shows differently than other TV networks when they sign a project, providing the money upfront and immediately ordering two seasons of most series.

Netflix, Inc. is a media-services provider headquartered in Los Gatos, California. The company was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in Scotts Valley, California. The company's primary business is its subscription based streaming service which offers online streaming of a library of films and television programs, including those produced in-house.

As of January 2019, Netflix had over 139 million paid subscribers worldwide, including 58.49 million in the United States, and over 148 million subscriptions total including free trials.

Netflix expanded to Canada in 2010.

Netflix began in the U.S as a DVD rental by mail service, but the tipping point for its success was when it began streaming movies straight to customers' homes via broadband connections. U.S based customers can still rent movies and DVD's through the mail from DVD.com (a Netflix company).

Netflix serves members in many different countries. The Netflix entity that provides you with access to the Netflix service and qualifies as your data controller depends on your country of membership, and will be listed in your membership or payment confirmation emails.
