Winter storm and freezing rain expected Saturday night into Sunday morning

A Freezing Rain Warning is in effect for Morrisburg and area.

Winter storm with freezing rain Saturday night into Sunday morning then strong winds with some snow and blowing snow Sunday night into Monday morning.

Precipitation associated with a strong low pressure system may begin as snow overnight Saturday or early Sunday morning but is expected to quickly change to freezing rain. The freezing rain could persist for several hours before a transition to rain later Sunday.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

The precipitation is then expected to change back to snow late Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening. Total snow and ice pellet accumulations in the 2 to 5 cm range are possible by Monday morning.

In addition, strong westerly winds with gusts to 70 km/h are possible Sunday night into Monday afternoon resulting in very poor visibility in blowing snow.

Travel will become hazardous due to significant and sudden reduction to visibility.

Freezing rain warnings will likely be required.
