Recreational gates at Iroquois Dam remain lowered

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is advising users of the St. Lawrence River that the gates used for recreational passage at Iroquois control dam remain partially lowered and unavailable for use. These gates remain lowered due to well above average water flow through the St. Lawrence River, which is being released to address record-high water levels and severe impacts to Lake Ontario.

The gates will remain lowered until conditions allow for safe passage.

The Iroquois Dam is a dam that formed a water reservoir at Iroquois, Ontario, upstream of the power dam between Cornwall, Ontario, and Massena, New York. It is used to limit high water levels downstream in Lake St. Lawrence, and during ice management operations to help facilitate the formation of a safe, stable ice cover upstream of the structure.

OPG would like to remind all users of the river to take every precaution around dams and generating stations. To learn more about water safety, please visit opg.com/watersafety.

OPG is a Crown corporation wholly owned by the Government of Ontario. It is responsible for approximately half of the electricity generation in Ontario.
