Following the success of the award-winning Upper Canada Region Adventure Map, the Township of South Stormont and the Municipality of South Dundas have once again partnered to launch a new publication just in time for the 2019 tourism season. The “History & Adventure” publication focuses on the unique history of the region, while providing tourists with suggestions on how to enjoy the area today.
On Friday, May 31st representatives from each government body, including Council and staff, attended the official launch of the publication geared towards visitors looking to step away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a weekend getaway.
“We understand that tourists aren’t concerned with municipal boundaries, so this piece allows us to show off more of our combined history, attractions and places to eat to encourage longer visits” said South Stormont Mayor Bryan McGillis.
The publication features 8 history bites and photos from across the region and offers suggestions on how visitors can experience those areas today. Some of the stories that will take you back in time include the history of the McIntosh Apple, Dr. Mahlon Locke, the historical buildings of St. Andrews West and the Lost Villages.
“The “History & Adventure” publication emphasizes some of the important stories that make our community what it is today,” added South Dundas Mayor Steven Byvelds.
The “History & Adventure” publication is available at Visitor Information Centres in Cornwall and SDG, South Stormont and South Dundas municipal offices, and select businesses within the area. Digital editions of the map will be available on both municipal websites and UpperCanadaRegion.ca.
