Multiple charges at County Road 31 RIDE program last weekend

On Sunday, November 3rd, 2018 at approximately 10:22 p.m., SD&G OPP stopped a vehicle at a RIDE program on County Road 31 in South Dundas Township.


The traffic stop resulted in the male driver, 52-year-old Josh Hardy of South Stormont, refusing to provide a breath sample.


The police investigation also revealed he was in contravention of previous release conditions and had his driving privileges disqualified.


Hardy was arrested and charged with:

  • Fail or refuse to provide breath sample

  • Fail to comply with probation order (2 counts)

  • Fail to comply with a Recognizance (3 counts)

  • Drive while disqualified (2 counts)

  • Drive while under suspension (HIghway Traffic Act)

  • Drive a vehicle with cannabis readily available (Cannabis Act)

He was held in custody pending bail and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Cornwall at a later date.


SD&G OPP have been wasting no time when it comes to cracking down on impaired drivers since Cannabis became legal on Monday, October 22nd, 2018.


OPP officers were observed conducting RIDE programs on County Road 31 at Highway 401 around 10:11 p.m. on Friday, November 2nd and County Road 31 at Williamsburg around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, November 3rd.

The Ontario Provincial Police Festive Ride Programs usually begin late November.
