The boat launch in Morrisburg, operated by the Municipality of South Dundas, is scheduled to re-open on Wednesday, October 31st, 2018, following scheduled repairs that included the remediation of the boat launch for safer, easier-to-use access and recessing the existing ladders on the pier.

In a March 6th, 2018 recommendation to South Dundas Municipal Council, Recreation and Facilities Department Director Ben MacPherson recommended that Council authorize Kehoe Marine Construction to perform the repairs to the Morrisburg Boat Launch.

Prior to the 2018 budget deliberations, Municipal staff were asked to get quotes on the cost to repair the Morrisburg boat launch. As a result, staff provided Council with an estimate of $75,000 during the 2018 budget talks and Council approved $82,000 in capital funds to move forward with the repairs.

Kehoe Marine Construction met Municipal staff at the Morrisburg boat launch to discuss the scope of the work needed to repair the boat launch.

Kehoe provided the following scope of work with an estimate of $75,000 to complete it:

  • Mobilize and demobilize to/from the site

  • Install coffer dam and dewater

  • Removal of existing concrete and disposal

  • Place clean stone base

  • Form and pour new concrete ramp

  • Asphalt pavement repair to connect into new concrete

The report also indicated that Municipal staff spoke to multiple engineering companies to determine if they had in-house expertise to identify a proper course of action to repair the boat launch. The engineering companies do have civil engineers but noted the unique scope of the project might qualify looking beyond standard tendering procedures.

Staff recommended that Council forgo the tendering process and secure Kehoe Marine Construction to complete the work, because Kehoe Marine Construction had previously worked with the Municipality of South Dundas at both the Morrisburg boat launch and the Iroquois Marine.

$82,000 was allocated in the 2018 South Dundas Budget to complete the repairs.
