Meet Monique Gervais. Monique works part-time at the Brinston General Store.
Owner Carol Fowler, who purchased the store in 1999 with her husband Daryl, says she could not have done it without the support of staff like Monique.
"Monique has worked here for many years," said Carol. "She's a really great worker and friend. She's always willing to help when needed."
Monique is fluent in both French and English, meaning customer service at Brinston General Store is available in both official languages. Some customers come into the store just to visit her, and others are stunned when she starts speaking French to them.
When asked how she likes working at Brinston General Store, Monique said "It's like family there. They are wonderful people to work for."
Carol does most of the cooking, but Monique helps out in the kitchen and can make almost anything—except for Pizza.
Although she has lived with her husband Hector in Brinston for 8 years, Monique still can't pick a favourite menu item. "It's hard to pick," she said, "There is a lot of good food here."
You can usually find Monique at the Brinston General Store Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and on weekends.
When not working, Monique enjoys spending time with her 6 (soon to be 7) grandchildren. "I have 4 wonderful kids," she said, "3 of them live in Brinston."
