Kim's Convenience: From stage to screen

A recounting of the creation of Kim's Convenience from it's genesis as a Fringe play to it's new format as a half hour comedy for Canada's national broadcast. Featuring interviews with Paul Sun-Hyung Lee ("Appa"), Jean Yoon ("Umma"), co-creator Ins Choi, Soulpepper Theatre's Albert Schultz & Leslie Lester and Showrunner Kevin White.

Kim's Convenience premiered on CBC Television in October, 2016.


In July 2018, the series became available to audiences outside of Canada when it debuted internationally on Netflix.

An existing convenience store in Toronto, Mimi's Convenience Store, at 252 Queen Street East, was redesigned to stand in for exterior shots in the show.
