A proposed $80-million class-action lawsuit alleges that Google's search engine allows Internet users to discover names that are supposed to be shielded by court-ordered publication bans.
In addition to disrupting matters before a court, ignoring a publication ban may result in an offence under Section 127(1) of the Criminal Code—breaching a court order.
Publication bans extend to social media websites as well.
