August 3rd, 1944 - June 16th, 2019
With his family close beside him Gary passed away at home on Father’s day, June 16th, at the age of 74. Beloved husband and best friend of Sandy for 54 years. They grew older together. Gary had a life changing stroke in April of 2002 and lived his years with dignity, joy, laughter, patience and lots of love. He enjoyed 2 cruises, trips to family members on both coasts, lots of Church events and getting out and into mischief in the Winchester country-side on his scooter. Thank you everyone for keeping a watchful eye on him. He was an inspiration to all in his prayers for others and his great joy and belief in our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Left behind to miss him is his son Gary of Halifax, his wife Charlene and grandsons Tyler and Daniel, his son John Robert “Bobby” of Winchester and granddaughters Elizabeth and Victoria, his loved and loving mother-in-law Edith of Vancouver. Gary retired after he spent 30 years in the navy as a Chief Petty Officer 2nd class. He spent many years in the Church and he volunteered with his boys in hockey, lacrosse, and scouting. He enjoyed many family weekends going camping. He really put his heart into doing years of prison ministry. Many thanks to all of our Church family and friends, his care workers for helping Sandy keep him at home and most especially to everyone who took the time to be nice to him over the past 17 years, it was greatly appreciated. Lastly to his family who he loved so much.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at Harmony Community Church on Saturday, June 22nd from 1 p.m. until time of the service at 2 p.m. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations to Harmony Church Benevolent Fund would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. If you are making your donation online or by cheque directly to the charity, please include the following note with your gift “please notify the family”. You are our sunshine!
