At Dundas Manor, the Residents Council is involved in every aspect of the home, from planning menus to sitting on hiring committees for senior staff. Recently, a new Leadership Team, comprising residents from throughout the home, was elected to lead the Council.
“We have adopted a Leadership Team format to lead the Council. In doing so, everyone has a say,” explains Administrator Susan Poirier. “There is no pressure on one President as we spread the responsibility of chairing meetings, sitting on committees and working with our senior team on various projects. It’s exciting to have all of that input.”
Resident Eileen Laperriere agrees. She has lived at Dundas Manor for almost a year and says she likes the fact that her input is valued: “My friend Laura recruited me for the Residents Council Leadership Team. They ask for our opinions on things and I feel I’m wanted.”
The Residents Council meets every month. The Residents Council Leadership Team is called upon as needed to deal with specific concerns and make recommendations on behalf of the residents.
“The Residents Council, led by the Leadership Team, ensures that our residents’ voices are being heard. I’m proud to support this energetic team,” says Susan.
“This is my home and I have to take care of it,” sums up Eileen.
