Traffic stops lead to numerous arrests

On October 16th, 2018, just after midnight, the Grenville County OPP were conducting a RIDE check on the 401 off-ramp at Prescott. One of the vehicles they stopped had occupants in contravention of numerous criminal offences. The driver and 2 occupants were arrested and transported to the Prescott OPP detachment.

James Barkley, Age 39, of South Dundas Township is charged with:

  • Possession of a prohibited device

  • Possession of a schedule II substance-marijuana, over 30 grams

  • Fail to comply with an undertaking

The accused was released and will appear before the Brockville Ontario Court of Justice on November 30th, 2018.

James Eliss, age 31 of North Grenville is charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule II substance-marijuana, over 30 grams

  • Possession of a prohibited device x2

  • Obstruct a Peace Officer

  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition

The accused was held for Bail Court in Brockville.

A female, Taylor Vanderzweep, age 19, of South Dundas is charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition

  • Possession of a schedule I substance-methamphetamine

The female accused will appear at the Brockville Ontario Court of Justice on November 16th, 2018.

On October 20th, 2018 at approximately 2 p.m., an OPP officer stopped a vehicle travelling at speeds of up to 161 km/h., in a posted 80 km/h. zone. The vehicle was first observed on County Road 44, in North Grenville, further investigation revealed that the involved vehicle had been reported stolen out of Ottawa. The vehicle had additionally been involved in a theft of gas, from gas stations in North Glengarry Township and in Kemptville. Additionally, the driver was driving the vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

Joseph Charbonneau, age 46 of South Glengarry Township is charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime, over $5000.

  • Driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in blood

  • Theft under $5000, x2

The accused will appear before the Brockville Ontario Court of Justice on November 9th, 2018.
