SD&G OPP searching for missing scuba diver in St. Lawrence River

SD&G OPP officers are currently at the scene of a missing scuba diver in the St.Lawrence River near Lock 21 on Macdonell Island in South Stormont Township.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that just prior to 9:00 AM, a diver returned to shore and his diving partner for reasons under investigation, did not surface. SD&G OPP initiated a search with the assistance of the SD&G OPP Marine Unit, South Stormont Fire Services, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (two boats), United States Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center from CFB Trenton with its helicopter. 

The search continues with the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit scheduled to attend tomorrow.

Police request that the public avoid the area as they continue their investigation.
